Making IT Accessible to "Many"

ubuntu

At TUXInfonomist, we are actively involved in making IT infrastrucure accessible to more number of users given a certain investment. The question that might come up is, how? Yes, we have identified the right technology of multiplying the power of a PC to be used by 10 users. That means, effectively bringing down the cost of computing per capita, reduction in the use of Energy and above all, less administrative hassles.

It would be our endeavour to bring the benefits of this technology to the Education Sector to begin with followed by any others who may find such infrastructure useful. TUXInfonomist is currently in the process of doing a pilot for the benefit of education sector in the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh. This hardware infrastructure, coupled with K12LTSP would bring immense benefit to the education sector.

We shall be covering more of the news on this project in due course as it unfolds.

VOIP - The Open Source way

debian

With just a computer and a card that goes into the PCI slot of a PC, you can enjoy the benefits of VOIP at your premises. You can provide as many VOIP hand sets as you want subject to your call density and the number of Trunk lines from your telephone Exchange. There are no restrictions on the number of users on your internal LAN

Very useful for SMEs and Call Centres, this solution if used wisely can be of immense benefits to various vertical segments of the industry, non profit organisations co-operative societies etc.

System Administrators - Get rid of your Troubles

fedora

By judicious selection and use of Free and Open Source Software Technology, System Administrators can get rid of many of the troubles in their day-to-day life. The best possible benefit that we gain may be by deploying linux in the periphery of their network in the form of firewall/router/web cache server

The next possible advantage that can happen is to bring in Linux into your LAN itself as a File & Print Server using Samba Configuration. You can extend them later to work as a Primary Domain Controller and also configuring it to use OpenLDAP to replace Active Directory. You will have peace of mind. Rather than looking after computers, you can concentrate on your business.

If you are little more enterprising, we can help you replace that Exchange Server with any of the innumerable mail servers such as sendmail, postfix and/or collaborative groupware such as Zimbra from the FOSS world. What we offer in effect is Freedom from vendor lock-in.

Educate, Enable and Empower

Technology has given to people a large number of tools unprecedented in scale and with far-reaching power in its scope. They are actually tools for independence and engagement for people in general. But the point is, unless people have access to such tools in the first place it is meaningless. Secondly, they should be educated about how those tools can help them. Thirdly, they should be enabled to use those tools. These together bring about the change what we need in people. Empowerment.

We envision TUXInfonomist to be a place where such ideas turn into expressions and reality. It is our hope that more and more people around us subscribe to our views and help us take our mission forward.
